Cameron Design House, an award-winning British bespoke lighting and furniture studio based in London, was founded by Ian Cameron in 2014. The studio has quickly become synonymous with unique, contemporary statement design and refined craftsmanship. Each piece is meticulously designed in their London studio and then handmade by skilled artisans in their Hertfordshire workshops.

Since its inception, Cameron Design House has grown into a globally recognised design studio known for its commitment to quality and precision in both its lighting pieces and client services, from the initial design phase through to delivery. Their creations, which include custom statement chandeliers and tables, are crafted to meet clients' specific requirements, offering bespoke sizing, configuration, and finishes.

Ian Cameron, drawing from his shared heritage between the United Kingdom and Finland, infuses his designs with influences from vibrant central London and the serene Nordic countryside. This blend of cultural aesthetics results in sculptural pieces that embody the British tradition of exploring creative possibilities and the Nordic emphasis on clean lines and lightness. Proudly designed and made in Britain, Cameron Design House focuses on balancing form and function to achieve timeless, beautiful designs.

How would you describe your style?

ian cameron

My style is constantly developing and evolving into a more fluid and organic approach. I enjoy exploring the relationship between different materials and seeing how they can work alongside one another. Our latest design, the Vetta, features hand-cut polished glass segments with machined brass elements. It was really interesting playing with these two different materials to create a new design profile. We are currently developing a new piece that incorporates alabaster with metal and I'm looking forward to seeing how this evolves.

The most important object you have designed so far:

We recently launched the Kupoli Collection (see below), our debut furniture collection. This marked a new chapter in the business, expanding our offering from the world of lighting into furniture as well. As we enter our ten year anniversary, it's more important than ever to explore design possibilities using different techniques.

Which artists have been inspiring you lately?

ian cameron

I have always been an admirer of Dali's work and his organic approach to his designs. Recently I have been revisiting my family roots in Finland and this has always been an incredibly inspirational place for me. The clean lines and natural beauty of the landscape are unrivalled and whenever I return from my Finnish homeland is when I feel most inspired.

What do you do when you're not working?

ian cameron

My dad used to be a racing driver and we are currently redoing SR90 Hill Climbing Formula Renault Race Car from the 90s together. We are refurbishing it, making parts on the lathe and returning it to its original glory. Cars have always been a huge passion of mine and working on a project like this with my dad is really special.

Favourite hotel in the world:

That's a tricky question and there are definitely a few that come to mind. I love the boundary-pushing work of Martin Brudnizki Design Studio and one of their projects in New York, The Beekman, is one of my favourites. The desk in the lobby that has been wrapped in carpets is definitely a highlight.

Chamberlain, Powell and Bon's innovative approach was groundbreaking. The brutalist architecture of their Barbican project stands the test of time and is iconic to this day.

Advice for young creatives starting their careers?

ian cameron

It sounds cheesy but honestly you have to follow your dreams. Just go for it, don't let negativity hold you back and don't be scared of failure.

An Anthony Gormley book, Gucci book, Le Labo candle and, most importantly, a cup of coffee!
